Stylin'

When I moved to Raleigh, I was so insanely devoted to my hair stylist in Winston-Salem that I made the 110-mile drive back to his place to get my hair cut. Every five to six week -- for three years!

The last time I saw him, he traveled to our house right before we moved to cut our hair one last time. On our much beloved and sorely missed wrap-around porch.

I used to drive nearly two hours - one way - to see Andre. Now, if I walk fast, I can make it to my new place in two minutes.

I thought about that painful drive yesterday when I walked the youngest three to the salon. Where we played on the wrap-around porch as we waited for one twin, then the other, to get their hair cut.

The weather was so obscenely gorgeous that I couldn't imagine anything worse than cramming the kids into a car and driving. Anywhere.

I miss Andre. But not Interstate 40.

I'm guessing these guys don't miss it either.
