A paycheck
Wednesday, September 8, 2010 at 5:21PM I filed a news story the other day for the first time in more than four years.
I'm still puzzling over why it felt like such a victory.
I did interviews, made phone calls and was reminded of the brick-wall bureaucracy of police departments. Ah, yes, good to know that while I put my professional life on hold to feed babes and clean crap, things haven't changed out there in the work-a-day world.
I wrote the short piece on Labor Day which seemed significant. On a day meant to celebrate workers, I earned a paycheck. A small one that might, - I stress, might - cover my coffee shop addiction through the end of the month.
Anyway, if you're local, take a hop over to Del Ray Patch, the new online news site that covers my neighborhood, and please leave a comment if you have any experience with this intersection. If you live elsewhere, but you're intensely interested in dangerous crosswalks and traffic scofflaws, because WHO ISN'T?!, you might want to take a peek too.
Go on. Do it.
I'll be freelancing for the web site from time to time, banging my head against brick walls and earning cash to blow in the coffee shop.

Congrats you got a paycheck! Sure, it may only cover your coffee but before you know it, it'll be scones and biscotti!
Really, that's awesome for you. Isn't it weird how a check, with your name on it, can make you feel powerful, even if you're only powerful enough to afford the meter money while you're in the bank depositing your check!
hilarious, as always! scones and biscotti, yes. but probably not quiche. the quiche is really expensive.
I have expenses, you know. There might be a lunch or two on top of that paycheck.
Big spender! It's all in jest, you know. I'm super excited to be a part of it all.
