A pit stop on our way north, to our own sojourn in the woods. A swim in the pond was just as glorious as I remember. Next stop: Old Orchard Beach, a ferris wheel ride followed by a lobster roll, then sweet Kingsley Pines.
Awesome. Looking at that sign, I first thought "Too bad it's not prettier," the sign I mean, not the woods - and then thought, well, Thoreau would have wanted to keep it simple, huh? Awesome book, that was.
I never read the book in its entirety -- just bits and pieces. Last year, after we left Walden Pond, Kent read parts of it on the last leg of our road trip to Maine. I was struck by how perfectly Thoreau described the water in the lake. It's a gorgeous, gorgeous, GORGEOUS place!
